Nursing homes may close if the owners retire or decide it's no longer profitable. When an owner chooses to close a nursing home, he or she must provide notice to all residents at least 60 days before the set closing date.

The Closing Notice must include the following:

  • The final date to vacate the premises
  • The reason the home is closing
  • Plans on how to relocate
  • Instructions on a resident's right to appeal

In addition, the nursing home must provide all contact information, advance directives and special care instructions for each resident to the resident's new nursing home administration.
