SHOULD I HIRE A CARE MANAGER FOR MY AGING PARENT(S)?

If you are caring for aging parents long distance, then a care manager will offer peace of mind. Part of a care manager’s responsibility is to accompany elderly clients to the hospital and medical appointments to serve as a liaison between patient and providers as well as family members. This helps to keep everyone informed and ensure the proper care and procedures are in place.

To find a care manager that fits the needs of your situation:

Determine the type of credentials and/or experience that will be the best fit for your situation. Some prefer to use care managers with a social work background while others, especially those dealing with a lot of prescription medications, prefer licensed nurses.
Do a thorough background check before committing to a contract.
Negotiate a contract and understand payment terms because this expense is typically not covered by insurance (with the exception being some long-term care policies).
