Sarah Spangler

Associate Attorney

Sarah Spangler earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. She began her career with a year and a half as an associate at a Washington, DC firm before turning toward the area of law that had captured her interest all along: estate planning. The decision was less a change of direction than a return to something she had wanted to do for a long time.

Her instinct for that work traces back to the piedmont of North Carolina, where she grew up homeschooled as the youngest of six children. A household of that size is its own education in advocacy, communication, and the quiet dynamics that shape every family relationship. As her parents balanced the needs of six children, Sarah learned to speak up for herself without straining the bonds around her, a balance of candor and care that still defines how she counsels clients today.

That upbringing gave Sarah a genuine appreciation for the blend of technical precision and personal counseling that defines a trusts and estates practice. She is drawn to the human side of the work, helping individuals and families build thoughtful plans that reflect their values and goals rather than a generic template. Her aim is to make a process many people find daunting feel approachable, so clients walk away with confidence and real peace of mind about the future.

ABOUT ME

People Often Ask...

  • What is one thing you wish everyone knew about estate planning?
Estate planning is about much more than planning for death. Sadly, illness, accidents, or periods of incapacity can strike anyone at any time, regardless of age or stage of life. Having documents like powers of attorney and advance medical directives in place can ensure that someone you trust can make decisions on your behalf if you’re unable to do so. Ultimately, estate planning is about protecting yourself and the people you love—not just after you're gone, but throughout your lifetime.
  • Do I need an estate plan?
Almost always, yes. Estate planning isn't just for retirees or those with significant wealth—it's for anyone who wants a say in who can make financial or medical decisions on their behalf, who will care for their children, or how their assets will be managed and distributed. A thoughtful estate plan gives you a voice, even when you can't speak for yourself, and helps provide clarity and peace of mind for the people you care about most. Every plan is different because every person and every family is different.
